When you get past World of Warcraft addiction, you don’t play nearly as much. Makes sense, right? But one of the side effects of not playing as often is that disorientation when you do sit down to play again. What the heck was I doing last time I played? Where was that quest giver? Or maybe where were those pesky Timbermaw anyway?
Don’t worry, it happens to all of us. When you are always logged on, its easy to pick up from last session. But when days or weeks pass in between, we all need some assistance.
I didn’t need sites like thottbot.com and wowhead.com when I played all the time. In fact, I kind of looked down on people who used them all the time. But now I use them regularly. There are others like thottbot.com and wowhead.com too. I just know and use those two the most. (No, I have no interest in them. :))
Even better though, I’ve found a couple great addons: Questhelper and Carbonite Quest. Both do almost the same thing, so choose between the two. Don’t run them at the same time. (I don’t think you even could.)
Either one keeps track of your (or your group’s) current quests and helps determine the most efficient route in finishing them. Along the way they keep all informed of the progress in reaching the various objectives.
Both addons will lead you astray on occasion. But both work correctly the vast majority of the time. I think Carbonite benefits from having the Cartographer addon installed as well. Questhelper you can pretty much use on its own.
Lately I’ve been using Carbonite instead of Questhelper for one reason. Carbonite shows you the path of where you’ve recently been. As someone who is always getting lost in dungeons, I find this feature a great benefit.
I use the paid version of Carbonite but the free one is a great tool too just without some of the optional features. As far as I know, Questhelper is still free but I think I recall reading that they might have a paid version coming out as well.
From what I’ve read there are addons that go beyond Questhelper and Carbonite. These |others |provide you guidance on which quests are worth your time. But since I’m the kind that likes to follow story lines through, I haven’t looked into them.
I’ll be adding more reviews and suggestions for useful addons for the casual World of Warcraft player at myworldofwarcraftaddiction.com. If you know of any, please suggest them or write them up yourself and I’ll post what you write.
